Who We Are
DTRA is the defense department’s agency to mitigate WMD and emerging threats. DTRA’s workforce is an integrated mix of personnel from government, military, and industry, blending a variety of skillsets at the individual and organizational level.
 

What We Do
We work to identify, develop, and field solutions to counter WMD and emerging threats, leveraging our unique capabilities and expertise in direct support of Joint Staff and Combatant Command requirements.

DTRA’s Therapeutic Arm Latches on to FDA-approved and Affordable Drugs for COVID-19 Relief

FORT BELVOIR, Va. - The COVID pandemic took the world by surprise. Researchers were left scrambling to devise a way to best mitigate the negative impact this disease has on global health. However, at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) it is common to operate in the “what if” space when it comes to potential biological threats. In fact, DTRA investments in technologies that detect, mitigate, or neutralize chemical and biological threats to the military and the nation date back more than 20 years.

Strong International Relationships Enabled DTRA to Provide COVID-19 Support to Partners Abroad

VIENTIANE, Lao PDR – Dr. Robert Pope, Director, Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), met with government representatives in the Lao PDR, May 2-3, 2019. Dr. Pope’s engagements included meetings with members of the World Health Organization, where they discussed U.S. – Lao partnerships in health security.
