DTRA Partners with EUCOM and Polish Special Forces for CWMD Training

By Jessica Lewis Defense Threat Reduction Agency

Members from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in support of U.S. European Command (EUCOM) conducted Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) training with Polish Special Forces in Poland on 18-29 April.

The partnership between DTRA and the Polish Special Forces began in the spring of 2019, adding Poland to the list of nearly 15 other European partners.  Through DTRA’s Building Partner Capacity activities, the Agency and the Polish Special Forces are working together to develop CWMD capabilities to prepare, identify, respond, and mitigate chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents. Additionally, the training enhances response to all Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) incidents and accidents involving toxic industrial chemicals in order to create better options for decision makers in the WMD fight.

For the multi-phased training event, experts across functional areas at DTRA and the U.S. Joint Forces teamed-up to develop a training event and scenario with realistic CBRN threats that activate response and generate interoperability across the forces. Each partner engagement is aimed at creating a training environment that is more dynamic and more complex than the last.

As the Counter WMD Implementer for the Department of Defense, aligning our BPC activities to support regional requirements identified by the Geographic Combatant Command builds strong relationships with our partners and allies and enables the Joint Forces to compete and win against WMD threats.

ABOUT DTRA
