Major General Lyle K. Drew, USAF, serves as the Acting Director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). Previously, he was DTRA’s Deputy Director, from July 2024 to January 2025. Prior to his assignment at DTRA, he was the Director of Logistics, Civil Engineering, Force Protection, and Nuclear Integration, Headquarters, Air Force Material Command, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
General Drew entered the Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Purdue University in 1994 and has held a variety of positions in aircraft maintenance, acquisition program management, and professional military education throughout his career.
Early in his career General Drew served in several maintenance and logistics leadership positions at Edwards Air Force Base, California, with the 412th Logistics Support Squadron, the 450th Test Squadron, and the 412th Test Squadron. He then held several leadership positions on Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, with Squadron Officer School, Squadron Officer College, and Air University. He was the Deputy Legislative Assistant to the Chairman, Joint Staff, in the Pentagon in 2010 before spending a year in Iraq as the Deputy Commander, 332nd Expeditionary Maintenance Group, Joint Base Balad, followed by another year in the Pentagon as the Senior Total Force Enterprise Strategist, Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Programs, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force. He was Commander, 49th Maintenance Group, Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico; Commander, 78th Air Base Wing, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia; Director of Staff, Air Force Material Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio; and Commander, 82nd Training Wing and Installation Commander, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.
General Drew earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, a Master of Business Administration from Western New England College, Springfield, Massachusetts, and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, National Defense University, Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C.
His many awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, and Joint Service Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster.
