Dr. Rhys Williams visits USSTRATCOM

Dr. Rhys Williams, Acting Director, DTRA visited USSTRATCOM on July 14, 2021. Met by Deputy Commander, Lt. Gen. Thomas A. Bussiere, Dr. Williams received a C2F tour of the facility and several briefings on the strategic deterrence mission. DTRA plays a critical role in mitigating weapons of mass destruction and emerging threats.

DTRA’s Partners in North and West Africa Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is supporting the Kingdom of Morocco and Senegal develop counter-weapons of mass destruction (CWMD) capabilities under the Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction Security Cooperation Engagement Program (CSCEP) and partnering in U.S. Africa Command’s (USAFRICOM) Exercise AFRICAN LION 21, a full-scale exercise 7-18 June 2021.

The United States and the Philippines Partnership to Defend against Disease Outbreaks

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) renovated seven regional animal disease diagnostic laboratories across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao in the Philippines. The Agency’s Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP), a component of the Department of Defense’s Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program, works with partner nations across the world to peacefully facilitate detection and reporting of infectious diseases, promote laboratory safety and security best practices, and establish international partnerships to reduce threats from dangerous diseases.

DTRA Kicks-off Fourth Chemical & Biological Operational Assessment

FORT STORY, Va. - The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is gearing up to kick-off the fourth iteration of its signature Chemical and Biological Operational Analysis (CBOA) event. This Joint Force engagement is a scenario-based, live field exercise that provides DTRA technologists with essential end-user feedback. This feedback is then used to directly enhance the development of warfighter capabilities in a chemical or biological contested environment through steering developmental course corrections or confirmations, and system vulnerability and limitation analysis. The event will take place at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek - Fort Story, Va., from May 24-28, 2021.

ISO Hearing Reviewing DOD Strategy, Policy, and Programs for Countering WMD in FY22

Jennifer Walsh, principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense and global security and acting undersecretary of defense for policy; Dr. Brandi C. Vann, acting assistant secretary of defense for nuclear, chemical and biological defense programs; Navy Vice Adm. Timothy G. Szymanski, deputy command of U.S. Special Operations Command; and Dr. Rhys M. Williams, acting director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, testify during a subcommittee on intelligence and special operations hearing, May 4, 2021. Their testimony will include a review of the Defense Department’s strategy, policy and programs for countering weapons of mass destruction for fiscal year 2022.
