DTRA’s Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction Security Cooperation Engagement Program continued their partnerships

Field Live Chemical Agent Testing and Training Facility — DTRA’s Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Security Cooperation Engagement Program continued their partnership to train and equip First Responders from the Republic of Georgia to effectively respond to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents. In mid-March 2022, DTRA proudly partnered with personnel from three Georgian government agencies to participate in realistic CBRN Defense Training while operating in an environment with live Chemical Agents.

DTRA Conducts Executive-level Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Event with Thailand

Thailand — DTRA recently conducted a successful Executive Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Seminar in Thailand. Senior-level participants hailed from across the Thailand interagency and included civilian and military units tasked with CWMD, natural disaster, terrorism, emergency, and first responder duties. This event was hosted in Bangkok, Thailand at the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ Counter Terrorism Operations Center headquarters. DTRA has been working to build Thailand’s CWMD capabilities over the last decade. However, due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions, this was DTRA’s first touchpoint with their Thailand CWMD partners since 2019.

CCR Workshop

Fort Belvoir, VA — We were thrilled to welcome our CCRs here for the first in-person CCR Workshop in 2.5 years. Our intent was to present updated strategy and capabilities while facilitating relationship building and fruitful exchanges. We wanted to take advantage of their physical presence by including time for intentional discussions with every single department in the agency. Many CCRs were able to work towards solutions related to their respective AOR through office calls, or the exchanges that took place in the mass setting of the Workshop.

Dr. Rhys Williams, acting Director DTRA, hosted the Canadian Defense Attaché, MGen Paul Ormsby, on 21 December at DTRA Headquarters.

Dr. Rhys Williams, acting Director DTRA, hosted the Canadian Defense Attaché, MGen Paul Ormsby, on 21 December at DTRA Headquarters. The visit was an opportunity for the two leaders to meet and introduce themselves. Both leaders provided updates on their current activities and discussed opportunities to advance collaboration between DTRA and the Canadian Armed Forces. The leaders also exchanged insights on AI, cyber, integrated deterrence and the Artic. MGen Ormsby welcomed DTRA’s continued engagement, including a visit to Ottawa, and accepted Dr. Williams invite to return for a tailored staff roundtable. RDML Scholl and Mr. Lampela, along with Canada's liaison officer to DTRA, Major Sean Newman, also participated in the meeting.

DTRA Conducts First Joint Mission Assurance Assessment on the Space Coast

PATRICK SPACE FORCE BASE, Fla. — Members from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Mission Assurance Assessments Department concluded their first Joint Mission Assurance Assessment (JMAA) with the 45th Space Launch Delta to assess and identify vulnerabilities affecting defense critical assets, task critical assets and critical infrastructure.

DTRA ABQ Awards MILCON Project for New Facility

KIRTLAND Air Force Base, NM — The Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Albuquerque (DTRA-ABQ) Office will conduct an official groundbreaking ceremony in recognition of a recently awarded Military Construction (MILCON) contract to Hensel Phelps Construction Company on 9 Dec. 21 at 10:30AM. Located on Kirkland Air Force Base, NM, DTRA members will soon occupy a modern 76,000 square foot controlled access space administrative facility. Lead construction agents from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the DTRA ABQ Engineering office will manage the two-year effort.
