By DTRA PA Defense Threat Reduction Agency

Fort Belvoir, Virginia – Ms. Rebecca Hersman, the Director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, welcomed U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Lyle K. Drew to the agency as the new Deputy Director on August 1, 2024.

Major General Drew served most recently as the Director of Logistics, Civil Engineering, Force Protection, and Nuclear Integration, Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.  Other assignments for this career Air Force leader include Commander at the squadron, group and wing levels, Politico-Military Planner, for the Deputy Director for Global Policy and Partnerships and Deputy Legislative Assistant to the Chairman, Joint Staff. Maj. Gen. Drew’s integrator focused career experience is an excellent fit for the DoD’s Combat Support agency that provides cross-cutting solutions that deter strategic attack, prevent emerging threats, and prevail against weapons of mass destruction (WMD)-armed adversaries.

“I am excited to join DTRA as it focuses new efforts and initiatives to bringing the Joint Force the best of today’s rapidly evolving technology environment,” Maj. Gen. Drew said after his swearing in ceremony. “I look forward to representing the agency to our partner nations, other elements within the Department of Defense and other counter WMD entities.”

Drew earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University, a Master of Business Administration from Western New England College, and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, National Defense University. In addition, he is a graduate of Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and the Air War College.
