Collaboration is key to Safety

By Lisa Gonzales Air Force Safety Center

On 18 September 2024, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health office held an open house at their new facility on Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. The Air Force Safety Center partnered with the 377th Air Base Wing Safety Office to brief over a hundred participants on the dos and don’ts and hazards of riding a motorcycle. They explained the different types of personal protective gear and demonstrated the airbag vest to show how it can protect and save lives. The intermingled days of summer and autumn are beautiful on the back of a motorcycle as the foliage begins to change colors, but every rider should stay aware of their surroundings and to remain in their lane while enjoying the beauty of the ride. Additionally, the Albuquerque Police Department and the New Mexico Department of Transportation were in attendance to speak about New Mexico specific issues pertaining to traffic injuries and deaths and their outreach efforts.
