Libya-- The U.S. Government, through the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), in coordination with the Department of State Bureau of Arms Control and Nonproliferation (DoS ACN), supported security professionals in Africa through the delivery of the International Counterproliferation Program (ICP) Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Workshop in Tunis, Tunisia from July 21-25, 2025. The workshop brought together 28 Libyan participants from various ministries to broaden awareness of the global threat of terrorism and WMD, create awareness of the linkage between terrorist groups and WMD, and promote proficiency in developing counterterrorism operations and policies within Libya.
The workshop emphasized an integrated regional, national, and international approach to investigations of terrorists and their use of WMD. Participants analyzed case studies illustrating the terrorism-WMD nexus and engaged in daily discussion groups, case studies, and scenarios designed to increase institutional knowledge and expertise and improve interagency cooperation and information sharing.
The U.S. Embassy, Libya External Office in Tunis was proud to support this initiative and appreciated the opportunity to cooperate with Libyan partners to ensure readiness on global security threats.
