In December 2023, the United States and Kazakhstan celebrate 30 years of nonproliferation partnership under their landmark Umbrella Agreement. Building off the trust established during characterization of the Semipalatinsk Test Site, the U.S. and Kazakhstan also partnered to secure the vulnerable nuclear material and infrastructure. The U.S. supports Kazakhstan in its efforts to sustain these prior investments and counts on Kazakhstan as a key partner in nuclear security and nonproliferation.
