The threat posed by weapons of mass destruction is not unique only to the U.S. armed forces. At any given moment, adversaries could use these devastating weapons on the American homeland, threatening the lives of civilians.
DTRA stands ready to support Federal agencies and organizations in case the worst-case scenario happens. The agency’s Consequence Management Advisory Teams (CMATs) provide task-organized, deployable, doctrinal, and technical expertise, support, advice, and hazard prediction modeling assistance for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal agencies during all phases of accidents or incidents of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear nature. Additionally, DTRA’s Operations Center provides a gateway for Federal agencies to access DTRA’s vast expertise and services.
Among the agencies DTRA works with are the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, the National Counterpoliferation Center, National Counterterrorism Center, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Geospatial-IntelligenceAgency.
