A NEW DOMAINE FOR THE PANDEMIC ERA
DTRA JSTO has developed an initiative called DOMANE — Discovery of Medical Countermeasures Against Novel Entities. The initiative uses AI/ML tools to rapidly identify a combination of previously approved drugs for use against emerging biological threats, including COVID-19.

BE PREPARED: MACHINE LEARNING IS EQUIPPING US FOR THE UNKNOWN
DTRA JSTO’s research is developing a machine learning capability that uses non-invasive, wearable devices to provide early warning of infection. The Rapid Analysis of Threat Exposure (RATE) program is an early infection-warning system that can warn of an infection up to 48 hours before overt symptoms appear.

PACKING HEAT IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19
When the DoD needed to transport COVID-19 patients safely on military aircraft, DTRA JSTO developed a decontamination system called Joint Biological Agent Decontamination System (JBADS) Lite. The unit produces high heat and humidity to effectively destroy RNA microbes and sanitize the aircraft.

BIOLOGICAL RAPID RESPONSE: PREPARING FOR SURPRISE
Experts from DTRA JSTO discuss the importance of an integrated, whole-government approach against biological threats. These preparation measures include multiple roles and responsibilities when dealing with hazardous situations during a biological response.
