Dr. Rhys Williams, acting Director DTRA, hosted the Canadian Defense Attaché, MGen Paul Ormsby, on 21 December at DTRA Headquarters.

Dr. Rhys Williams, acting Director DTRA, hosted the Canadian Defense Attaché, MGen Paul Ormsby, on 21 December at DTRA Headquarters. The visit was an opportunity for the two leaders to meet and introduce themselves. Both leaders provided updates on their current activities and discussed opportunities to advance collaboration between DTRA and the Canadian Armed Forces. The leaders also exchanged insights on AI, cyber, integrated deterrence and the Artic. MGen Ormsby welcomed DTRA’s continued engagement, including a visit to Ottawa, and accepted Dr. Williams invite to return for a tailored staff roundtable. RDML Scholl and Mr. Lampela, along with Canada's liaison officer to DTRA, Major Sean Newman, also participated in the meeting.

DTRA Conducts First Joint Mission Assurance Assessment on the Space Coast

Members from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Mission Assurance Assessments Department concluded their first Joint Mission Assurance Assessment (JMAA) with the 45th Space Launch Delta to assess and identify vulnerabilities affecting defense critical assets, task critical assets and critical infrastructure.

DTRA ABQ Awards MILCON Project for New Facility

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Albuquerque (DTRA-ABQ) Office will conduct an official groundbreaking ceremony in recognition of a recently awarded Military Construction (MILCON) contract to Hensel Phelps Construction Company on 9 Dec. 21 at 10:30AM. Located on Kirkland Air Force Base, NM, DTRA members will soon occupy a modern 76,000 square foot controlled access space administrative facility. Lead construction agents from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the DTRA ABQ Engineering office will manage the two-year effort.

Battling Emerging Threats: New DTRA Strategy 2022-2027 keeps counter-WMD agency aligned with national, DOD priorities

In keeping its missions, priorities and values aligned with the most recent higher-level guidance, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has published the 2022-2027 Agency Strategy. The new document is a timely, strategic blueprint that ensures DTRA addresses the challenges posed by weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and emerging threats. When referring to WMD, the Agency is specifically focused on nuclear, chemical, and/or biological weapons.

“The last levee”: Travis DTRA ensures New START compliance

Defense Threat Reduction Agency at Travis Air Force Base, California, hosted Ms. Rose Gottemoeller, former Deputy Secretary General of NATO, one of the original architects of the New START treaty, Sept. 24, 2021, at Travis AFB. As part of the New START Treaty’s verification regime, DTRA members and their Russian counterparts conduct inspections of each other’s nuclear storage facilities and participate in a free exchange of data as a means of ensuring compliance to the treaty’s agreement.
